Compassionate Mind Training (CMT) is an integral part of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

According to the Compassionate Mind Foundation, CMT can help us to understand, and work with, our tricky brains. It enables us to use our bodies to better support our minds. It also supports us to develop the courage and wisdom to address our life challenges and to flourish. The compassionate mind can be directed to ourselves and others in order to support us to be helpful rather than harmful.

Dr Chris Irons and Dr Charlie Heriot-Maitland of Balanced Minds developed an 8 week Compassionate Mind Training programme which built on the work of Paul Gilbert and CFT. This course has been evaluated and the findings suggest that the course has led to increases in compassion, self-reassurance, positive emotions and wellbeing. It was also associated with reduced levels of self-criticism and psychological distress.

I have been fortunate to complete the facilitator training for the 8 week course with Dr Charlie Heriot-Maitland and will be offering this course to 16-18 years old initially. Please get in touch for more information.
